Five Minutes With/Jonathan Stephenson

It's time for a quick break and a chat, maybe a cup of tea, maybe a KitKat if you're that way inclined. (We are).

Every now and then we're going to have a 5 minute break with someone from a local community. Or rather in this case, someone who is working on our brand new play called Ruby written by our Artistic Director Jonathan Stephenson.

So grab a brew and put your feet up for five minutes for a sit down and a chat.

This time round we're having a 5 minute break with the writer and actor Jonathan Stephenson.

Tell us a bit about yourself and what you do?

In the daytime I frequent at a cinema which also happens to pay me for chillin there. It's a doozy. But don't upset the silver screeners otherwise those middle class tyrants will have ya before they devour their free biscuits. In the evening I like to create things with words and hope it means something. A good story is soothing on the soul.

Perks of the job?

The grooviest of colleagues. Free cinema is a gift from the gods.

If there was one thing that you would urge anyone to watch what would it be?

Magnolia by Paul Thomas Anderson. Nuff said.

Also, Kendrick Lamar's performance at the Grammys was beyond cool.

Horace and Pete by Louis CK.

Definitely that one actually.

If there was one thing that you would urge anyone to listen to what would it be?

I Am The Walrus - Beatles.

And, I dunno, The Big Brother theme on repeat until your ears bleed or whatever.

What's your favourite play?

Skylight - David Hare The Hothouse - Harold Pinter On The Shore Of The Wide World - Simon Stephens 3 Winters - Tena Stivicic and many, many, many, many more.

What inspires you?

What's the best thing about the local community in which you work?

We have the biggest windows at work and it's quite possibly the best place in the universe for people watching. There's also a real community vibe that pings around the place which adds comfort. Don't mess with Pasquale next door (Di Maria on the Notting Hill Gate if you fancy a cool Italian).

Lastly, what's for dinner tonight?

Jerk Chicken. It's carnival. What else ya gonna do?

If you want to take part in our 5 minute break, drop us an email -

As always give us a like on facebook and follow us on twitter and instagram.

You can also give us a nice like on facebook as well.

Until the next time.

All the best, Bourne West.
